I asked Ros to follow up on this interview after reading about her career change. I knew she’d have excellent things to say and I was not disappointed.

What’s changed?
Ros: Exactly a year after Keris put my interview on the Ladybird Purse I was signed off sick from work and have now dropped out of my job and the office-based career I had for most of my adult life. The header said ‘Ros Ball, 44, South London, Civil servant and author’. I’m 46 now and on a long term career break from the civil service, working as a professional gardener, and feeling pretty sceptical about being an author too. But in many ways I’m happier than I’ve been for years.
In January 2023 my day job working on equality policy was closed and I moved into a disability policy role that was created as a full time job, but I was only contracted to work 3.5 days. There was also a vacancy for the role of my team assistant, so essentially I found myself doing two jobs but on part-time hours. I also had a book due out that year. By April I was losing my mind.
