Hi, I’m Keris and I love to talk about money.

This is me.

It’s quite likely that you found me via photos of my cat, Noodles, on Substack Notes.

This is Noodles.

Noodles doesn’t have much to say about money, but she welcomes you anyway.

Now back to me!

I started The Ladybird Purse because I always want to talk openly and honestly about money. Even when it’s scary. Even when the thought of it makes you feel sick.

I want to know how it feels to have enormous debt. I want to know what it’s like to never have to worry about money. I want to talk to women and non binary people who haven’t even thought about a pension, who wake up at night and wonder how they’re going to pay the bills.

I’ve interviewed over 150 women so far with plenty more to come. A couple of my favourite quotes…

Diane S: Women are socialised not to talk about money, which keeps us in the dark and earning less than men. It's also so strongly tied with ideas about self-worth that it's embarrassing if you're not making much or in debt. It feels like it says something about your value as a person, and that's not just in our heads, some people will judge us for it.

Lynette Reed: I love money. Money makes life easier, I don't care what anyone else says. I've had it, and I've not had it, and I would take having it any day over not having it. Not having money is extremely stressful, having money means you can take care of your needs and the others in your life's needs. It gives peace of mind.

(Lynette’s follow up is also one of my favourites.)

What do subscribers get?

Every Monday I post an interview along with an update about my own financial situation. Currently…

For paid subscribers, there’s a second weekly post that may feature a follow up on a previous interviewee, advice from a financial expert, or yet more from me.

A monthly subscription costs £7 and an annual subscription is £50 (a bargain!). Or, if you’d like a chat with me (about anything at all, but money seems the most likely subject) you can become a Gold Member (I am sorry) for £100.

I love writing this The Ladybird Purse. Thanks so much for reading.

Keris x

When Keris says she is honest about money (or the lack of it), she means it. This blog combines brutal honesty with humor and love. I am enjoying Keris' journey and would argue that some of us need this type of discourse to break the money cycles that don't serve us.

Helen from Zen and Sensibility

Keris has OPENED my eyes about the female relationship with money. I'm often nodding along or winching at the honest shares and can't wait to keep reading and healing my relationship with money as a creative.
